Today's verse is from Isaiah 35:4–5:
“Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.’ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.” Isaiah 35:4–5 (NKJV)
Fear and discouragement often take hold when our circumstances seem greater than our ability to overcome them. But notice that God does not simply tell His people to be stronger or try harder. He gives them something far greater to rest their confidence upon: “Behold, your God will come.”
Isaiah spoke these words to encourage God's people with the promise of His coming deliverance. God's vengeance speaks of His righteous judgment against evil, while His salvation promises restoration for His people. Their hope was not in changing circumstances but in the faithfulness of the One who promised to save them.
Centuries later, Jesus fulfilled the signs Isaiah described. When John the Baptist questioned whether Jesus was the promised Messiah, Jesus pointed to the blind receiving sight, the deaf hearing, and the lame walking (Matthew 11:2–5). The Savior Isaiah foretold had come! Through His death and resurrection, Christ secured our salvation, and one day He will return to complete the restoration of all things (Revelation 21:4).
Heart check: How often do we allow what we see around us to determine what we believe about God? We become anxious over circumstances we cannot control, discouraged by situations we cannot change, and fearful of outcomes we cannot predict. Yet the same God who fulfilled His promise to send the Savior remains faithful to every promise He has made.
Our confidence is not that God will remove every difficulty today, but that He has already secured our eternal hope through Jesus Christ. As 2 Corinthians 5:7 reminds us, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Today's takeaway: Don't measure God's faithfulness by the difficulty of your circumstances. Measure your circumstances in light of the faithfulness of your God. The Savior has come, salvation has been accomplished, and His promises will never fail.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me when I allow my circumstances to become greater in my heart than my confidence in You. Strengthen my faith, quiet my fears, and help me remember that my hope rests in Jesus Christ, not in what I can see or control. Teach me to walk by faith, trusting Your perfect wisdom, sovereign power, and unfailing promises. In Jesus' name, Amen.
